NYC to Florida Movers, Flat Rate and a Real Delivery Window
On a move from NYC to Florida the drive south is the easy part, and the two buildings decide how it goes. At the Florida end you deal with the association, and we tell you what to ask it and supply what it wants from the mover.
Both addresses is enough to start. The flat rate comes back with its delivery window.
A move from NYC to Florida is a long distance job, run out of our Long Island City warehouse and priced the way the rest of our long distance moving work is. Our runs to DC and Boston are always a dedicated truck. Florida is where a shared trailer is normal, and that sets both the price and the delivery window.
How Long Does a Move from NYC to Florida Take
It depends on which truck you are on. A consolidated load shares the trailer with other shipments, which holds the price down, so delivery lands inside a 4 to 15 day window rather than on a named day. A truck of your own carries your load alone on a 2 day window and costs more.
Sharing the trailer is what creates the window, not the distance. A move across the river is a different job on its own page, NYC to NJ movers.
What NYC to Florida Movers Charge, and What Moves the Number
Florida starts at $1,950. Nothing goes out below that, and it buys a slot on a shared trailer.
Three things build the number.
- Volume, meaning everything on your inventory list.
- Fuel and mileage for the drive south.
- Tolls, on their own line, not buried in a fuel surcharge.
Packing sits inside the same flat rate: full, partial, or you pack and we load. Access at the New York end sizes the crew. Access at the Florida end is often the association’s answer rather than yours.
You have that figure in writing before anything is loaded, and it does not move on delivery day. It is quoted with the delivery window it assumes. Send both addresses and get a free quote for your move or storage.

Certificate of Insurance and Elevator Reservation, Both Ends
If your building asks for a certificate of insurance, we issue COIs for both ends inside one business day. Send us your managing agent’s template as soon as you have it, so the review has time to run. The Florida end may want one too, and there is no Florida template to look up: a COI requirement down there is written building by building, so ask for it as early as you ask New York for yours.
If your building reserves the service elevator, ask what block you get and what hours it covers, then tell us and we size the crew to load inside it. On a consolidated load that block is the only fixed clock at the New York end.
What Your Florida Condo or HOA Requires Before the Crew Can Unload
Florida’s condominium act and its homeowners association act do not set move-in hours, elevator procedures or COI requirements. What they do is let the association make reasonable rules about the common areas: section 718.123(1) for condominium common elements, section 720.304(1) for HOA common areas. So the hours, the elevator rules and the COI are written building by building, not by the state.
The reliable answer is your association’s documents. Ask the management office, in writing: which days and hours moves are allowed, whether the elevator must be reserved and padded, whether a COI is required and who is named on it, whether the crew and truck go on a gate list, and whether the truck needs a permit or a reserved spot. Send us the answers. On a permit we tell you what to apply for and when, but the application is yours.
Delivering to a Miami High-Rise
Where a Miami address is a high-rise, the access answers come from the association rather than from you. One loading bay and one service elevator often serve a whole tower, so the block you are given is the block the crew works inside. Ask whether the move needs board or management sign-off and how long that takes. Starting that approval is yours, and the crew cannot unload until it is in hand. Ask what size truck the bay takes as well.
Fort Lauderdale Gate Lists and Towers
Many Fort Lauderdale addresses sit behind a gate, whether the building is a tower or a house in a managed community. The gate list is the association’s, so a missing name is fixed with the management office, better before move day than at the gate. Ask whether your name, the moving company and the truck all go on the list, and send us the answer.
Orlando and the Wider Metro
Orlando addresses can sit a long way apart, so give us the exact street address rather than the area. Many of them are inside a homeowners association, and the association is what decides where a truck may stand: on the street, in the driveway, or in a spot it assigns for the day. Ask before move day and tell us what you are given.
Tampa and St. Petersburg
Two metros, and the access question is often different on each side of the bay. If your address is a building with a management office, we need the move-in hours, the elevator block and the paperwork that comes with them. If it is a house, we need what the truck can reach: the width of the street, the length of the driveway, and anything overhead in the way of a full size truck.
Jacksonville, Address by Address
In Jacksonville the street address decides the job, so send the full one. Tell us whether the door is at street level or up an outside stair, how many flights, and whether the crew passes a gate or a management office to reach it. Where there is an association, ask it the same questions and send us what it says.
Hurricane Season and When to Book
Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. The National Hurricane Center puts the climatological peak on September 10. NOAA’s hurricane research division reports that 96 percent of major hurricane days fall in August, September and October. Storms form outside the official dates too.
None of it stops moves or changes a flat rate. It changes how much slack you want: a truck does not drive into a storm, and on a shared trailer a Florida delay pushes everything behind it.
Two to three weeks of lead time is comfortable. Shorter notice is often workable, depending on the route and what is already loaded, so ask. Booking early does not lower the price. It buys a better chance of your dates. If you are also moving inside the city, the cheapest time to move in NYC covers the local calendar.
Storage in Transit at Our Long Island City Warehouse
The Florida date that slips is a closing, or a hold at the association. We cannot hold a shared trailer for it, because your load is travelling with other people’s shipments and their dates. So it comes off into our Long Island City facility, handled by our own crews, and goes back on a truck when Florida is ready.
What We Will Not Promise on a Move to Florida
We will not put a delivery date on a consolidated load. Anyone handing you a firm date for a shared trailer to Florida is selling something they do not control.
Lease dates usually take the window. A closing that funds on a fixed morning takes the direct truck. Better you hear it now than on day eleven.
We do not file your association paperwork, and we cannot talk a board into letting a crew work outside the hours in its own rules.
Moving from Florida to NYC
We run it, and it is harder to schedule northbound. It depends on when a truck is heading back and what is already on it, so give us more lead time and expect less give in the dates. The New York end applies in reverse: the COI, the elevator reservation, the street. Call with the pickup city and the New York address and we tell you what is running.
NYC to Florida Moving Questions
What does a move from NYC to Florida cost?
From $1,950, a slot on a shared trailer with a 4 to 15 day window. A truck of your own, on a 2 day window, costs more.
What will my Florida condo or HOA want before the crew can unload?
It varies building by building. Associations commonly ask for some combination of a COI naming the association, an elevator reservation, set move-in hours and a gate list. None of it is state law, so ask your management office.
How do I check who is authorized to carry my shipment to Florida?
On a shared trailer, ask who holds the operating authority for the shipment, then check it. Ours is USDOT 4144902, household goods authority under MC 1589978, and FMCSA’s own search tool shows any carrier’s registration and complaint history. FMCSA tells you to start earlier: written estimates from several movers, after an in-person inspection. On an interstate move the mover also owes you the “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” booklet.
How late can I book a move to Florida?
Two to three weeks out is comfortable. Shorter notice is often workable, depending on the lane and what is already loaded, so it is worth asking rather than assuming the answer is no.
